Alabama PTA Advocates at the State House

On Wednesday, March 18, 2015, the Alabama PTA (AL PTA) hosted its Annual PTA Advocacy Day at the Alabama State House. The organization’s President Becky Vansant and Vice President of Legislation and Advocacy Andrea Rogers Price led a group of its members to the Alabama State House to meet with legislators to discuss the Alabama PTA 2015 Legislative Priorities.

The members had an opportunity to speak with Senators Vivian Figures, Quinton Ross, Bill Holtzclaw, Rusty Glover, Steve Livingston, and Paul Sanford and Representative Kelvin Lawrence. The group also spoke with Dr. Tommy Bice, who is confirmed as this year’s Keynote Speaker for the Alabama PTA 97th Annual Convention scheduled for April 24-26, 2015 at the Embassy Suites in Montgomery.

The meetings were very productive as the group delivered a package to each legislator that included the AL PTA’s 2015 legislative priorities as well as issues and concern with current legislations. The group shared the organization's support for the Alabama College and Career Ready Standards and Governor Bentley's initiative to expand Alabama’s PreK program. They also discussed concerns and issues that our organization has with the Charter School Bill as well as the Alabama Accountability Act.

This was a great opportunity for parents to actively advocate for the education, health, and welfare of all Alabama children.
