Use Your P.A.L.
Be Flexible
Synchronize and Prioritize
Get organized
Write down your plans
Resolve conflicts on paper first—compromise
Family calendar or schedule is a must!
Communicate
Take the time to sit down with your family and talk about the schedule. Let everyone have a turn talking, and then work to arrive at solutions that will benefit everyone.
Use Your P.A.L.
Parent Address List (P.A.L.) is a great tool for every parent
Family and Friends
Church and Work
School, PTA and other organizations
Be Flexible
Talk to your employer about flex-time
Limit "volunteer time" to 4-5 hours a school year
Rotate with other activities
Put Your Skills to Work
Are you a CPA or in finance?
Have Marketing or General Office Skills?
Fast Food or Janitorial Connections?
Talk to teachers and parents to find ways to volunteer or serve the school within the limitations of your busy schedule. Offer your professional skills whether it's writing press releases for an upcoming fundraiser or accounting for the spring carnival.
Change Is Good
Change the time, location or “flavor” of your PTA Meetings
If you generally have PTA Meetings at night, schedule a couple during breakfast or lunch time to allow all parents an opportunity to attend at least one or two meetings during the year
Meet at the local library, restaurant or have a outdoor cookout
Don’t Forget "Me"
Take time to relax
Meet a friend for lunch, movies or coffee
Go on a date with your mate
Say a little prayer for me
Alabama PTA
The Alabama PTA is the strongest statewide organization working exclusively on behalf of children and youth. Founded in 1911, Alabama PTA's primary objective is to strengthen the family unit through parent involvement.
