Leadership Development

leaders

Congratulations!

You have been elected to lead the PTA/PTSA in your school.

Now what?!

First, you are not alone. Second, just ask. You have many experienced leaders and a variety of resources available to assist you. Many PTA leaders spend hours during the summer learning and preparing for their role. Leaders of local, council and state PTAs that attend training have little or no problems during the school year. We have found that often problems occur within units that have not been trained and are not following the guidelines and standards of Alabama PTA and National PTA.

We have PowerPoint presentations from Summer Leadership Training 2008 available for members. Here are some of the topics you can choose from the following list:

ADVOCACY: Speaking Up for Every Child with One Voice
AWARDS: We Won—You Can, Too!
BYLAWS: Conducting PTA Business
MEMBERSHIP: Campaigns That Work
PRESIDENTS: Stepping Forward in Leadership
PTA 101: What is PTA?
PTA PROGRAMS: That’s A Great Idea!
PUBLIC RELATIONS: Promoting Your PTA
REFLECTIONS PROGRAM: National PTA’s Signature Cultural Arts Program
SECRETARIES: More Than Minutes
TREASURERS: Follow the Money

These presentations are for general information only. PTA/PTSA Officers are strongly encouraged to attend workshops presented by Alabama PTA at convention and Summer Leadership Training (SLT) for in-depth training.

Alabama PTA

The Alabama PTA is the strongest statewide organization working exclusively on behalf of children and youth. Founded in 1911, Alabama PTA's primary objective is to strengthen the family unit through parent involvement.
