Alabama PTA believes leadership skills must be nurtured and continuously maintained. That’s why we offer these training programs and resources designed for parents as well as students to help develop stronger advocates and leaders:

  • Alabama PTA Annual Convention – April is “Child Advocacy Month” and “Volunteer Appreciation Month”. To capture both, Alabama PTA provides a variety of educational workshops for PTA members during the day followed by evenings of celebrations of local unit accomplishments. The experience is unforgettable and well worth the investment!
  • Summer Leadership Training (SLT) – Regional training is provided between June and August to officers in local units to teach duties and responsibilities in preparation for the coming school year. Local unit leaders elected after the start of the school year can be trained by council officers or field service representatives, upon request.
  • Family-School Partnerships Presenters – Trained parent involvement presenters throughout the state of Alabama are available all year, upon request, for your local unit meetings, community meetings and any training or function, to encourage parental involvement. Simply contact Alabama PTA and request a Family-School Partnerships Presenter (formerly known  as BSP Presenter).
  • Alabama PTA Web – Computer savvy individuals can download Alabama PTA Handbook, forms and training material via the web at www.alabamapta.org. Although there is no substitution for the experience and knowledge obtained from personal contact experienced, knowledgeable instructors it is sufficient until you have the opportunity to attend the annual convention or summer leadership training. Urgent matters should be directed to the state office or to the appropriate Alabama PTA leader listed on the web.
  • E-learning – PTA courses are available online on www.pta.org for busy leaders that want to learn at their own pace and in their own space.

By volunteering with your PTA, you gain valuable experiences. It’s an opportunity to put your skills and hobbies to good use for a good cause—your child and all children in the community.
